Position Overview

As a Pediatric Occupational Therapist, you will plan and implement individualized treatment programs for students according to occupational therapy best practices and principles. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including educators, therapists, physicians, and families to deliver comprehensive rehabilitative services that support student success. This role reports to the Clinical Coordinator of Rehabilitative Services.

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations based on physician prescriptions and educational requirements
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable goals for pediatric students
  • Complete specialized assessments for wheelchairs, splints, positioning devices, and Activities of Daily Living (ADL) equipment
  • Fabricate orthotic devices, assistive technology, and custom splinting as needed
  • Prepare thorough documentation including evaluation reports, treatment plans, progress notes, and compliance documentation
  • Communicate regularly with physicians regarding student care, progress, and treatment modifications
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary school teams to coordinate comprehensive student care plans
  • Provide supervision and guidance to support staff assisting with student care
  • Educate students, families, and caregivers on therapeutic techniques and home programs
  • Maintain and care for department equipment, supplies, and therapeutic materials
  • Contribute to developing and standardizing new occupational therapy services and interventions

Professional Development & Community Engagement:

  • Deliver in-service training and educational programs for school staff, healthcare professionals, and physicians
  • Participate in continuing education to advance professional knowledge and clinical skills
  • Engage in departmental and organizational committees as assigned
  • Complete all mandatory annual education programs and compliance training
  • Provide age-appropriate, patient-centered care across all pediatric age groups (infants through adolescents)
  • Demonstrate professional conduct consistent with occupational therapy ethics and organizational values
  • Foster positive, compassionate relationships with students, families, and colleagues

Required Qualifications

  • Current New York State Occupational Therapy license OR eligibility to obtain licensure at time of hire
  • Master's degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Ability to perform physical demands including standing for extended periods and assisting with patient positioning, lifting, and transfers
  • Strong documentation and communication skills
  • Commitment to patient-centered care and collaborative practice

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in pediatric occupational therapy settings
  • School-based therapy experience
  • Hospital or clinical rehabilitation experience
  • Knowledge of IEP (Individualized Education Program) process and special education regulations
  • Experience with splint fabrication and assistive technology
