About the Role

Time Commitment & Engagement: This is a part-time contractor role, expected to average 10–15 hours per week.
Work will be milestone-driven with clearly scoped deliverables.
This role is ideal for an experienced mobile developer who can work independently and ship incrementally without requiring daily oversight.

As a React Native Mobile Developer, you will be responsible for building our native mobile application from the ground up. Your primary mission is to bring the full Built In One marketplace experience to iOS and Android, enabling gig workers and clients to connect, communicate, and transact from anywhere. You will work with our existing Supabase backend and Stripe Connect payment infrastructure, focusing on delivering a polished, performant, and intuitive mobile experience.

Note: A fully functional web application already exists, which you can reference for features, user flows, and design patterns.

What You'll Do

• Build the Mobile App: Build a production-ready React Native application for iOS and Android, prioritizing core marketplace features with phased parity to the existing web platform.
• Implement Core Marketplace Features: Build screens and flows for user authentication, gig browsing/posting, application management, real-time messaging, and payment processing.
• Integrate with Existing Backend: Connect to our Supabase backend (PostgreSQL, Auth, Edge Functions) and Stripe Connect payment infrastructure using their React Native SDKs.
• Push Notifications: Implement push notification system for real-time alerts on new messages, gig applications, payment updates, and work status changes.
• Camera & Media Upload: Enable users to capture and upload profile photos, work samples, and documentation directly from their devices.
• Location Services: Implement location-based features for finding local gigs and enabling geographic matching between clients and providers.
• Deep Linking & OAuth: Handle OAuth callbacks (Google Sign-In, Stripe Connect onboarding) via deep linking, ensuring smooth authentication flows that return users to the app.
• App Store Deployment: Prepare and submit the application to both Apple App Store and Google Play Store, managing the review process and ensuring compliance with platform guidelines.
• Performance Optimization: Ensure smooth animations, fast load times, and efficient memory usage across a wide range of devices.
• Code Quality: Write clean, maintainable code with proper error handling and testing coverage.

Basic Qualifications (What You'll Need)

• React Native Experience: Proven experience building and shipping React Native applications to production.
• App Store Publishing: Must have successfully published apps to both Apple App Store and Google Play Store. You understand the submission process, review guidelines, and compliance requirements.
• TypeScript Proficiency: Strong TypeScript skills for building type-safe, maintainable mobile applications.
• API Integration: Experience integrating mobile apps with REST APIs and real-time data sources.
• Deep Linking: Experience implementing URL schemes and deep linking for OAuth callbacks and in-app navigation.
• State Management: Familiarity with React state management patterns (Context API, Redux, Zustand, or similar).
• Mobile UI/UX: Understanding of mobile-specific design patterns, navigation paradigms, and platform conventions for iOS and Android.
• Problem-Solving Skills: You don't just report bugs; you debug, identify root causes, and implement fixes independently.

Preferred Qualifications (Bonus Points If)

• Supabase Experience: Familiarity with Supabase (Auth, Database, Realtime, Edge Functions) or similar BaaS platforms like Firebase.
• Stripe Connect: Experience with Stripe Connect for marketplace payments (split payouts, connected accounts). Regular Stripe experience is acceptable.
• Push Notifications: Experience with push notification services (Firebase Cloud Messaging, Apple Push Notification Service, Expo Notifications).
• Location & Maps: Experience with React Native Maps, geolocation APIs, or location-based features.
• Marketplace Apps: Previous experience building two-sided marketplace applications (Uber, DoorDash, Fiverr, Upwork-style platforms).
• Expo Knowledge: Familiarity with Expo for streamlined React Native development and OTA updates.
• Testing: Experience with React Native testing tools (Jest, Detox, React Native Testing Library).

Compensation

Compensation is provided as a monthly retainer based on part-time availability and experience, with flexibility for milestone-based increases as the product progresses.
